How to Spot Imposter Utility Workers

Water utility workers are just a few of the Village of Jackson employees who regularly visit neighborhoods. Unfortunately, because VOJ employees are a trusted and common sight in many village and town areas, criminals may sometimes pose as utility workers in order to gain entry to customers' homes.

How to Verify Employee Identification

  1. Does the visitor have identification?
Most employees on company business are required to carry a photo ID badge.

  2. Does the worker have on a VOJ uniform with our company logo?
VOJ workers who perform services, work on water meters or work on water service lines wear uniforms. However, some other employees do not. Always ask for identification before allowing anyone inside the home.

  3. Has a service appointment been scheduled with Jackson Utilities?
Most of the time a VOJ person visits in response to a service request. If no one scheduled an appointment, call VOJ at 262-677-9001 before allowing anyone inside the home.

  4. Do VOJ employees ever stop by without an appointment?
Yes. But whether they are meter readers, inspectors or service technicians, VOJ employees always carry identification.

  5. Are you still not sure?
Don't open the door! Call 262-677-9001 to assist you.
