Permit Submittal Requirements
Permits may be submitted in-person, via mail/courier, via email or by fax.
Please note: Payment of all fees is required prior to permit issuance.
The completed permit application form along with all required supporting documents must be submitted simultaneously. Incomplete applications will be placed on hold.
Supporting Documents include but are not limited to the following: Floor Plans, Site plans, Certified Survey Map, Plat of Survey, Scope of Work, Structural Calculations, Truss/Framing Plans, Erosion Control Plans, Stormwater Management Plans, Contractor Emergency Contact List, etc.
Permits are generally processed within 5 to 10 days however, additional time may be required depending on staff workload.

- Debit or Credit Card (Visa, Mc, Disc, Amex) (Note: Credit Card payments may be made over the phone once a permit Number has been issued. An additional 2.75% processing fee applies.
When to Submit
Permits must be submitted prior to commencing any work.
In cases of emergency work, the permit must be submitted the following business day. When possible, please notify the Inspection Department of emergency work.
Penalty fees apply for permits obtained after the fact.
Applicant Licensing / Registration Requirements
The State of WI requires certain contractors who wish to obtain permit(s) for work (construction) on a one or two-family dwelling to be properly licensed/registered with the state. This includes the following:
- Dwelling Contractor Registration - SPS 305.31
- Dwelling Contractor Qualifier - SPS 305.315
- Electrical Contractor Registration - SPS 305.40
- HVAC Contractor Registration - SPS 305.70
- HVAC Qualifier Registration - SPS 305.71
- Licensed Plumber - SPS 305.90
Homeowners who currently reside or will reside in the home are exempt from the above requirements.
State Law prohibits owners of duplexes from performing any work or obtaining permits for such work.
