Do I Need a Permit?

On this page, is a basic list of common projects that require permits and is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of projects requiring permits. If your project is not listed, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Building Inspection Department directly and speak with an Inspector.

• Sidewalks (New or Replacement)
• Commercial/Industrial Construction New, Additions and Remodeling 
• Driveway Approach
• Accessory Structures: Garages, Sheds, Gazebos, etc. 
• Erosion Control (Residential and Commercial)
• Electrical (New, Alterations and Repairs including service upgrades and appliance connections) 
• Fire Alarm (Contact Jackson Fire Department)
• Plumbing (New, Alterations and Repairs to drain, waste, vent and supply or appliance connections) 
• Fire Suppression (Contact Jackson Fire Department)
• HVAC (Furnaces, boilers, A/C, unit heaters, RTU's, etc.) (New or Replacement) 
• Signs (Incl. temporary signs, banners, etc.)
• Appliances (New or replacement of dishwashers, water softeners, built-in ovens, etc.) 
• Demolition or Razing of Buildings
• Decks, Stairs, Stoops, Porches (Attached and Detached) 
• Asbestos Abatement
• Fences (New or Replacement) 
• Broadcast Towers and Antennas
• Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, Saunas (Includes Temporary Pools) 
• Tanks (State Permit Required)
