Candidates for Elected Office


The Village of Jackson's Village Board is composed of a Village President and six (6) trustees, whose term shall be two years long.  The Village President and three trustees are elected at the annual spring election in odd-numbered years and the remaining three trustees are elected at the annual spring election in even-numbered years.  Village of Jackson Ordinance, Sec. 2-23.

Becoming a Candidate

The below documents and links provide information on how to become a candidate for public office.  As a candidate, you are responsible for becoming familiar with election and campaign finance requirements that apply to your campaign.  If you have questions after reviewing the information, please contact the Village Clerk's Office at (262) 677-9001.  Information you receive from the Village Clerk's office is not to be considered legal advice or release you from your responsibility to comply with the elections laws. 

Important Dates to Remember

  • If you are an incumbent and decide against running, you must fill a Notification of Non-Candidacy form by the 2nd Friday preceding the deadline for nomination papers by 5:00 PM.  Wis. Stats. §8.10(2)(a), 120.06(6)(b).
    • For 2024, the deadline is December 22, 2023, at 5:00 PM.
  • All candidates must file a campaign finance statement as soon as they intend to seek office and before any funds are collected or spent.
  • December 1st is the first date to circulate nomination papers.  Wis. Stats. §8.05(3)(a), (4)(b), 8.10(2)(a).
    • For the Village of Jackson, 20 to 100 signatures are required to obtain ballot access for the office of Village Trustee.  It is good practice to obtain more than the minimum number of signatures required, in the event any of the signatures are declared invalid.
  • The deadline for candidates to file, with the Village Clerk, nomination papers, declarations of candidacy, and campaign registration statements is the 1st Tuesday in January, by 5:00 PM.  Wis. Stats. §8.05(3)(a), (4)(b), 8.10(2)(a), (5), 8.21.
    • For 2024 the deadline is January 2, 2024, at 5:00 PM.  Although the Jackson Municipal Complex is closed this day, the Village Clerk will be available to accept the aforementioned paperwork.
